How to Apply

Currently enrolled first-year students, sophomores, and juniors are eligible to apply. A Princeton netid is required to access application materials.

 

1. Please consult our resume guidelines before you apply. 

2. Submit the Summer Work Program 2026: Internship Application Form

Deadlines:

  • December 1: Internships in service and social impact, the humanities, arts, law, and government.
  • November 15:  Ifo. Only Sophomore and Juniors with at least intermediate German proficiency are eligible.
  • Oct. 1 - Nov. 23: TUM PREPLate applications are not accepted. You must submit applications to both SWP and TUM PREP. First-year students are not eligible.
  • November 15: the Ruhr FellowshipLate applications are not accepted. You must submit applications to both SWP and the Ruhr Fellowship. First-year students are not eligible.
  • Deadlines for FGS Global and the Helmholtz Association (HIDA) will be posted under ‘STEM internships’ in the SWP Shared Resources folder by early October. 

Missed the deadline? Depending on your qualifications, you may still be eligible. Please inquire.

2. If requested, schedule an appointment on SWP’s Calendly page or by emailing @email.

3. The following application materials are required for all internships: 

You will be informed if any of the following are required:

  • German CV conforming to these guidelines
  • German Cover Letter
  • Recommendation Letter 
  • Language Evaluation

Programs such as TUM PREP and the Ruhr Fellowship have additional requirements.

4. Spring semester: 

  • Company interviews (if required)
  • Receive and accept internship offer
  • Pre-departure checklists and orientation meetings
  • Apply for funding on SAFE
  • Register travel plans
  • Internship registration forms (if required)
  • Apply for visa (if required)
  • Apply for Work Permit Waiver (if required)
