Jonathan is a senior in the Department of German pursuing the Joint Program in German Culture and Politics, with a minor in Russian, East European, and Eurasian Studies (REEES). His academic interests include contemporary European politics, legal history, critical theory, and world literature, with a focus on Central and Northern Europe. As a Danish-American, he is particularly drawn to the relationship between German and Danish history and politics, especially questions of national minorities and identity in the German-Danish borderlands. His Junior Paper examined the little-known Danish poet and botanist Jens Peter Jacobsen, and his Senior Thesis is a political history of the Südschleswigsche Wählerverband (SSW), the political party representing the Danish and Friesian minority in Schleswig-Holstein. During his junior year, Jonathan studied at the Freie Universität Berlin (Otto-Suhr-Institut für Politikwissenschaft) and Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin (Nordeuropa Institut and Institut für Slawistik), and he has worked as a Research Assistant at the Max-Planck-Institut für Rechtsgeschichte und Rechtstheorie in Frankfurt. He has also participated in study-abroad seminars with Princeton-in-Vienna, Princeton-in Berlin, and the Salzburg Seminar on Opera and Cultural Diplomacy. He plans to attend law school after Princeton.

Beyond the classroom, Jonathan is involved with the Nassau Weekly, 2D, the Liechtenstein Institute on Self-Determination (LISD), the Princeton Curling Club, and he works as a barista at Sakrid. He enjoys reading science fiction, experimenting with new vegetarian recipes, and listening to live music wherever he can.
