The President’s Awards for Distinguished Teaching awarded to Brigid Doherty
Congratulations to Brigid Doherty, Associate Professor of German and Art and Archaeology
Brigid Doherty’s colleagues in the departments of Art and Archaeology and German call her a rigorous scholar, natural teacher and model mentor. A member of the faculty since 2003, her research focuses on the interdisciplinary study of 20th-century art and literature, with special emphasis on relationships among the visual arts, literature, and aesthetic and psychoanalytic theories of German modernism. She has developed, taught, and co-taught courses listed and cross-listed in multiple departments in the humanities, working with first-year students through graduate students. Most importantly, as an undergraduate student commented, “Professor Doherty consistently responds to her students with the type of thoughtfulness and seriousness that builds academic self-confidence and encourages continued dedication to learning.”
