The German Department at Princeton invites applications to its Ph.D. program for the academic year 2025–2026.
The German Department at Princeton is at once firmly grounded in the study of literature, art and philosophy while also rigorously interdisciplinary, bringing together a wide range of faculty and students working on critical theory, media studies, visual culture, aesthetic theory, history of science, environmental humanities, feminism, political theory, material culture, performance studies, and psychoanalysis. An ideal environment in which to explore issues of culture, communication, value, and collective existence today, our community is also thoroughly international thanks to longstanding collaborations with various universities and programs abroad.
All Graduate Students admitted to our program are guaranteed full tuition and a generous monthly stipend for five years (including summers); in addition, students have the opportunity to receive a sixth year of funding.

The deadline for admission for the 2025-26 academic year is January 2, 2025. Should you have any questions, please reach out to the Director of Graduate Studies Prof. Barbara Nagel.
