Since its appearance in 2018, Juliane Vogel’s suggestively titled book Aus dem Grund. Auftrittsprotokolle zwischen Racine und Nietzsche has had remarkable resonance in German-language literary and cultural studies. The essays written for this special issue of The Germanic Review aim to intensify the international discussion of Vogel’s important book by bringing its theoretical framework to bear on new material.
