How to Apply

Currently enrolled first-year students, sophomores, and juniors are eligible to apply. A Princeton netid is required to access application materials.

Please consult our resume guidelines and internship listings before you apply. Submit the Summer Work Program 2027: Internship Application Form

1. Deadlines

  • November 1: SWP internal deadline for TUM PREP and Ruhr Fellowship application materials. Submit cover letters and resumes to SWP to receive feedback (optional). You are not required to receive feedback on your materials, but you must apply to SWP to receive funding for TUM PREP and/or the Ruhr Fellowship. First-year students are not eligible.
  • November 15: External deadlines for TUM PREP and Ruhr Fellowship. Even if you have applied to SWP, you are still required to apply directly to these programs. Consult the respective program websites for details. First-year students are not eligible.
  • December 1: Deadline for all other internships:
    • Internships in service and social impact, the humanities, arts, law, government, and at the Ifo Institute. Conducted in German. See SWP German-language internships for details. 
    • STEM Internships conducted in English, including Helmholtz, Max Planck Institutes, and Geospatial Data Science. See SWP STEM Internships for details.
  • February 1: Extended deadline for prospective Princeton-in-Vienna students who are interested in German-language internships.
  • April 1: Funding deadline for student-initiated internships.

Missed a deadline? Depending on your qualifications, you may still be eligible. Please inquire.

2. Application materials

The following application materials are required for all internships:

  • German CV conforming to these guidelines
  • German Cover Letter
  • Recommendation Letter 
  • Language Evaluation

Programs such as TUM PREP and the Ruhr Fellowship have additional requirements.

Spring semester timeline

  • Company interviews (if required)
  • Receive and accept internship offer
  • Pre-departure checklists and orientation meetings
  • Apply for funding on SAFE
  • Register travel plans
  • Internship registration forms (if required)
  • Apply for visa (if required)
