Third year graduate student Kathrin Witter coedited Ultima Philosophia, an anthology of reflections on Adorno’s concept of negative metaphysics and what the implications of this double movement of affirmation and critique of metaphysics are today: what does a last philosophy as Adorno conceptualized it mean? The essays address topics like the epistemological and historical context of this idea; the dialectics of materialism and metaphysics and the necessity of metaphysics reflecting on history as well as a metaphysical reflection of history; the vanishing or hatred of metaphysics in fields like contemporary theatre or within social ideas of happiness and individual fulfillment; up to the critique of religion and the question of why a new metaphysical need can be made out.
