“On Enlightenment – mallet or tenderness”
Ms. Witter’s article investigates recent calls for a new enlightenment such as Omri Boem’s and Susan Neiman’s and asks what enlightenment philosophy implies and what it had to learn during the last two centuries. It suggests that a much needed renewed enlightenment cannot be content with the Kantian approach, but must also consult post-Kantian critique from Hegel to Marx and the Frankfurt School.
